Need advice RMAing a dead hard drive

Ok, my new 1tb drive worked for a few weeks, then went kaput.

I'm afraid that if I tell them it was working and then died, they'll suspect I did something to it.

But if I say it was DOA and they somehow get it working, they'll see that I put random stuff on it (like I said, I had 3 weeks of bliss with it).

I'm not trying to rip anyone off, I just know that honesty is usually the wrong policy. How should I go about RMAing it?

Ummm....tell the truth. Hard drives fail - it is a fact of life. If you claim DOA and they see stuff on it, they will be more likely to think it failed due to user error than if you are just honest from the start.

Tell the truth. They aren't going to refuse your RMA. Drives fail and companies know that.

As long as there is warranty it would be honored unless there are external physical signs of sever damage.

About that... Since nothing else I tried worked, I decided to try pulling the 1.5 / 3 gbit jumper out for the hell of it, one last ditch attempt to make it work. The thing was stuck in there like you wouldn't believe, and I ended up getting it out in 4-5 shredded pieces. The drive looks fine, but there's no jumper... big deal?
