i have an old pc . it is a 1.5 pentium with 128 megs of ram.

i want something for the following uses. i want to use it as a ftp file server. my uses would be to backup data, stream mp3s. also, i want the capability of assigning a drive letter on xp dedicated for the nas.

previously i had a file server setup with another xp machine and i accessed it through ultra vnc.

however, i want my next setup to be a bit more simpler.

i heard good things about freenas, naslite, and openfiler. what are your reccomendations and why.

last, i dont want to install another full blown os.

thanks

never mind i was leaning more towards free nas but clark connect seems much more stable and it also has a web interface. thanks for the rec gpgofast

I'm using clarkconnect home edition. Ultra stable, easy to set up, works for everything you described.

Too much unnecessary bloat, IMHO. If he is just looking for FTP use Ubuntu Server with proftpd.

There is also an optional installation of "Webmin". Very cool interface.
