Ok guys as you all know I'm a manager at a kiosk and things are definately not going good there. I have not made a commission check for the past year now. At this new retailer they're the number one seller of AT&T, Nextel and T-Mobile state wide. They have a pretty nice commission check to live off of. When I used to work part-time and get commission I'd get commission checks the size of a regular 25k/year salary.

Anyways, I know he's going to ask why I want to leave my current company as a manager and take a cut in pay to go to a lower paid position. I honestly don't know what to say. I'm at a lost for words. I know that I will say that since this company has a huge reputation the top seller/competitors in the state that I would love to be apart of this sales team and expand my sales skills and also help this company to make even more money.

But I know he is going to try to get me to tell them why I want to leave the company. What should I say?

You're not happy with the management, you feel like you've hit a glass ceiling, you want more opportunities, bla bla

I thought he was management

Maybe tell him you want to challenge yourself or feel the motivation to 'work your way up the ladder' again is what you are looking for?

Are you sure I can bad mouth the company? That is what I was afraid of. I am tired of the management.

Say "more incentives for commission". Also a good question to ask at the interview would be, "how much do your top 10% of the agents make per month".

Interviewers like it when you ask questions like that.

I wouldn't bad mouth the company, but why wouldn't you be able to express your displeasure? Certainly you have some if you're trying to find a new job, especially if the new job pays less. Let them know that you're fully capable and are willing to take a pay cut for a work environment that will let you flourish.

...or something.

Indeed, indeed. I was worried that I could not say something like I was not happy with the way things were being runned.

I'm just gonna briefly say that things aren't runned good there. I'd like to work for a company, even if its a decrease in pay, where I can flourish my skills and be happy working for such a company.

Our entire company needs to hit a certain quota of activations per month. Meaning each store has to hit at least 50 activations. Most stores hit only 30. I hit roughly 35 last month and the rest were slightly higher than mine. But the thing is I am one of the slowest stores to boot. Right now Moralpanic I'm only asking for good advice. If you could stay out of my threads it would be very nice of you. I notice you don't like me or you like to criticize me. I'm only here because there are many professionals out there who read/post on this board and can give me some good advice to help me in my career.

I would agree.

This shows your interest in achieving STRONG SALES and there's one thing all companies love, what's that?

NUMBERS ... produce the numbers and they'll love you long time.

Stress your strong points ie. experience, knowledge and you tell them you've had mgmt. experience. If they ask why you wanted to leave, tell them for a better opportunity. Mention the new FCC regulation and tell them you're looking to go with a strong company and you want to SELL. Tell them your heart is in selling, if they offer you mgmt. position tell them that you'd like to start out in sales so you can learn the interworkings of their company first... Don't be opposed to anything they offer, like bad hours and such. Good Luck I hope you get this opportunity, it's better than S...

Tell you need more money. Simple as that. He wants to keep you, he'll pay you more, otherwise take the new job!

I'm not so sure I'd say that; I doubt you'd get the job :Q
