Ok, im getting two laptops. One is for me, and one is for my uncle.

my laptop:
im going to be taking this laptop to college and just want an overall nice laptop.
is this a good choice? i've heard so many nice things about the T42 series, i just wanted to see if this was a good choice.
IBM T42 2378FVU

For my uncle:
please recommend something small and light. he uses this laptop for buisness work while traveling so the lighter the better.
apparently he gets a discount for Sony and Toshiba laptops, and currently has a 4 year old vaio that just broke down today. He will use this for basically email, and internet, but doesnt want something thats JUST fast enough for internet and email. the main concern would probably be battery life and size/weight.
price range - 1000-1500, so some recomendations for some series lines of toshiba or sony laptops would be nice

any help would be appreciate because we need these laptops as soon as possible.

How small does he want it to be. Both sony and toshiba have ultra portable lappies in the sub 4lb catagory? How much of a discount are we talking about. I know the sony TR series runs somewhere around $2000 while you can find a similar lifebook 5020 for around $1700 last time I checked. In that price range he might also consider the apple iBook 12" which gives pretty good battery life and has a few nice perks...

T42 is a great choice.
For your uncle, get the IBM X40 (entry level). The problem is that it's exactly on your budget. $1499. With tax, thats over 1500. But I think its worth it. IBM's service is unrivaled.
