Need advice on wedding budgets...

I'm just curious because I see a proposal happening in the next 1-2 years. How much do weddings cost? I know they can range between $50 - TONS....how much did you spend?

Yeah your price range just about covers it. Any idea how many guests you might have? For a decent sized wedding with a nice reception, don't expect to spend less than $10,000.

There are websites out there with wedding budget calculators that give you estimates of how much you can expect to spend on every aspect of the wedding/reception.

We got married in Vegas, small reception after we got home.

Whole deal about $3000.

Great fun, and still a good story about taking off in the middle of the night to fly to Vegas to get married.

Woah, you went from 50-100 to 35-50. That's definitely a small wedding, it'll probably limit your options as far as where you can have it, and it'll also give you a good excuse to not have a real expensive reception. Photographers are expensive, plus the wedding dress, flowers, etc.

Talking just $$$ here... depends how many people you're going to invite and what kind of reception. For asian banquets, the reception for 240 people was $18k alone (10-course dinner). The rest we spent here and there... came out to $28k. But as asian weddings go, you make back a lot of it so the net spending was only $8k.

We were real sticklers for organization so this may help you out as a guideline (for what you need to take care of)...

The wedding itself? Whatever it cost to get a license. The whole thing probably ran around 500 bucks, including dinner afterward at a nice restaurant and a few days in Victoria BC (stayed at the Empress for a great off-season price, and got our room bumped up to a really good one when they heard it was our honeymoon.)

"Justis of the piece" sounds like a really bad rapper name or something. 😛 (justice of the peace)

KillyKillall, PM dullard for tips on having an inexpensive wedding.

What do you consider "banquet" types?
ie. is this going to be a typical American wedding where there's a cocktail hour and then a simple main dish like chicken/fish/filet mignon ? Or is this going to be "ethnic" ? Is the ceremony happening at the same place as the reception hall ? These are factors you should consider.
