Which way do I go?
(Each one of these components being compatible with whichever processor I choose)
Gigabyte MB
Corsair or Crucial RAM
with
Athlon 2800 (2.25Ghz)
or
Athlon 3000 (400FSB)
or
Pentium 2.8 (533FSB)
or
Pentium 2.4 (800FSB)
Thanks for all the input. As for a 3Ghz Pentium, with 800FSB, I wish I could, but it's just too much money.
I don't do any gaming at all, just video capture with my ATI 8500 128Mb, and I use Ulead Video Studio 7.0 and Media Studio Pro 7.0.

As you bluntly put for your needs cpu and mem are the keys
Amd or Athlon is your choice but i think 2.4c with 1Gb or higher(mem is equally important) would be just fine
H/T helps in these cases in case of multitasking

I would go with a p4 2.4@533 and nothing else, the mobo would be asus or abit... memory depends on whether
you want to overclock or not... I am not really convinced on over all memory speed and fsb stuff... If you are going to o/c then check out overclockers.com and their cpu database... many usually list the type and speed of their memory... Who needs all that speed... Unless you are programming some type of 3d cad stuff - or doing large amounts of of video editing... Then the 2.4@533 is the mackie-daddy...
well I just wanted to vent also... I hope something helped...
