Need advice on upgrading CDRW firmware

I have a 4x4x24 burner that's a rebranded Philips CDD4201. It came with my brother's compaq that he got recently. Now -- the durned thing won't recognize 80 minute CDR's, so I figured I would go and try to upgrade the firmware. There's a philips "flashtool" program that should be a perfect fit for the drive, but even when following steps to the letter I get a message stating that the firmware is not correct for my drive. Any advice?

some flash programs require the drive to be on a certain channel, like secondary master or primary slave, check the instructions.

If you have more than one cd drive it may be looking at the wrong one.

Also, you may need to have a cd in the drive when flashing.
