This post relates to my last one about putting a MMX processor into a non-MMX board. Here is my situation: Right now my system is:

Intel te430vx
P133
64 MB SDRAM
monster fusion
maxtor 20.4 GB on an ultra66

I know it is extremely outdated, but it is highly unlikely that I will be able to get a new system until next year when I go to college. I also have a brand new Asus V6800 Pure that I cannot use (It's a long story how I got stuck with this, don't ask), and 64MB of PC66 sdram that I also cannot use (my motheboard does not support 64MB dimms). Now my question is, what should I do here? If I hold on to the vid card and RAM, they will both probably just go to waste because any system I get next year will have something better than a geforce DDR in it. Also, the PC66 RAM will also be worthless in a new system. Should I try to trade the video card in the FS/FT forum for a mobo/CPU that I can use as a cheap upgrade (and also put the RAM in) until I can get a new PC? What do you think?

It's your call dude. I mean if you are getting the new system in a couple of weeks, then sell what you can. However, if you are talking months, then do the upgrade.

Tough Jam, but if you don't have the money for a system upgrade, then you should probably get rid of the Video board, and memory, before if too becomes just as worthless... Take the money and save it for an upgrade later...

Well, I don't anticipate being able to get a new PC until sometime next spring at the earliest. I have money to spend now on upgrades, just not enough to buy a whole new PC. With that said, would I be better off selling the parts and saving the money for the new system, or trading them for a CPU/mobo/ram in FS/FT, and then maybe spend some money for some other things such as a cheap case? If I did trade it, I am assuming my only options would be either a P2 (<= 350 mhz) or celeron, since everything else will not take PC66 RAM.

Then I would sell it all, including the ram. You could get at least $50 for the 64 meg if you sell it to a friend or neighbor. The average person has no idea that memory is so cheap now. At $50 you are still selling it cheaper than say CompUSA. How much cash do you have for the upgrade now?

I was hoping that I could trade the card for a mobo+celeron+64MB PC66 (is that an unreasonable trade?), and then I could use the HD, CDROM, floppy, video card, ram, and NIC from my old PC, which would mean I would only have to buy a case (~$45). That could "tide me over" until next year when I get a new one. I would like to not have to spend more than $100 not because it's all I can spend, but anything more than that and I would just as soon save it for the one I will be buying next year.

Well, get the word out on your card asap, because the longer you wait the less you will get.
