I need to find a good socket 7 mobo for my wife. Something stable, and no onboard video. I have a K62 550 to put on it. Thanks...Chris......(It is drives me nuts that she uses my pc:) )

I used a Tyan S1598 for my K6-III. I had no problems with it.

I had an awesome one from DFI...don't remember the model. I sold it to my dad for his work and he hasn't had any problems with it (belive me, that's amazing!)

I've played around with a ton of Socket 7 stuff, and I really liked the Gigabyte GA-5AX (Aladdin-V) board, and the DFI K6XV-66+ was also nice. The GA-5AX is pretty amazing, it actually handles an AGP GeForce DDR without any problems (knock on wood)...

I got a really old tyan tomcat 3 running that has an adapter to allow me to run a k6-2 400 in it. 392 MB of ram and this board will still recognize 30 GB hard drives.

P5A was a really good board for socket 7, unfortunately it has the Ali chipset so AGP problems do exist. Better than the really old VIA chipsets though.

My humble recommendations....

For AT style mobos: DFI K6BV3+66 (ATA66 support), Epox EP-MVP3C2 (ATA66 + BIOS & jumper FSB speeds > 100)

For ATX: Tyan S1598 and the Epox EP-MVP3G2 or G5

But you are going to have a hard time finding these.

The Soyo 5EHM and FIC VA503+ are available at some online retailers but I haven't any experience with these.

I am still using Asus P5A w/ K6-2 450. STABLE AS A ROCK (Kind of weird expression, Rocks are hard, not stable :))

Running WinXP 128M RAM
