I have an AMD Athlon 950(t-bird) and I wanna bring it up mere 50mhz to make it run @1ghz.
What steps do I need to take in doing this?
Will the HSF/cooler(JustCooler generic)I have be enough to cool it only OC'n 50mhz?
Any tips or adivice is much appreciated.
well first, is the chip unlocked for multiplier controll and if it is not you can overclock the FSB to get the 50 MHZ you want, should be pretty simple. i see you have micron memory so the FSB overclock should work for you but watch the temps with that generic heatsink and fan. might want to upgrade that. hope this helps
how do i check for the unlock , I have a regular amd 950 t-bird on a msi kt7-pro 2-a mobo
also my current system is about 112 f after heavy gaming it goes about 117 f never hotter so would the 50mhz oc really need a need fan is so i was thinkin about a global win seems big enough
The tbird might go way higher than just 1ghz. Maybe 1.1ghz. To check for the unlock, look at the chip and see if the L1 bridges are connected by a small piece of conductive material. The fop32 should work great on your tbird.
if you are only itching to hit 1 gig, and dont want to hassle with removing the HS, just go into the bios, under frequency and voltage, and up the FSB to 106, 9.5 * 106 = 1007 MHz
well i did it , it now says 1007 mhz when i start my system and the temp as it stands right now is at 104 f,
I must admit this does scare me , i hope i do not burn it up:Q thanks and let me know if you have anymore tips
oh i am using pc alert 3 to monitor my temps and voltage came with my mobo
