Back in April the woman purchased a birthday present for me through Best Buy with her BB Credit Card. However, she received the item and realized that it was not what she thought it was. About two weeks later in May she sent the item back well within their return policy. However, prior to sending it back she had paid off her BB CC and cancelled the account. This caused issues in receiving the refund since generally they would credit the CC account.

It is now the first week of August and after numerous phone calls, complaints filed with the CC company, and the post office we still do not have the refund. The refund is ~$250 and we are getting no where with the phone calls.

What step should we take next?

Call to see if they will let her reopen the account. If they will, then follow up on getting the refund posted to the account.

Why would the post office be involved?

The CC company told us to file a complaint since they claim the check was sent and lost in the mail.

If they issued a check, then don't bother trying to reopen the account.

What did the post office say/do?

The typical "we'll look into it" bullshit.

I'd say you chalk this one up to stupidity....I mean:

-purchased online from bestbuy
-got a BB credit card
-cancelled an account on a purchase in limbo (probobly the stupidest thing of all)
-returned an item through the mail (you can return at their stores)

hopefully one day your money will come

I would call the CC company, tell them you have complied with their request to contact the post office, the post office did not find out anything, and that the obvious thing to do now is for them to reissue the refund check.

If the check was lost in the mail, then they can cancel it and issue you a new one. Insist that they do this.

Cancelling an account while a purchase is in limbo should not matter. If the second item was an option we would have exercised it.
