I'm currently running an Epox 8K7A with a 1.2ghz T-Bird, GF2 Pro, and 512MB PC2100 DDR that's a year and a half old and I think it's time for an upgrade. I will be ordering in 2 weeks or so and am planning out my new system. I have either decided on or can find enough info without posting to choose my hard drive, sound card, vid card, case, etc. etc. I need advice for my new motherboard, CPU, and memory though. I had a Abit BX6rev2 system before my current AMD set-up, so I am not inclined to either brand, just want to get the most out of my money.
Video card will MOST LIKELY be an ATI 9500 PRO unless I fall into some additional money. I will have roughly $400 to $500 to spend on the new motherboard, CPU, and memory. The comp will be used for gaming, general college stuff (OfficeXP, etc.), and ripping MP3s and maybe some SVCDs. I've seen info on those new Granite Bay boards and also on those new nForce2 boards, but I'm not really up with the technology so I come to you. Any info and suggestions are appreciated.
I posted years ago for info on that first Intel set-up, and again a year and a half ago for that AMD set-up, and you guys didn't fail me either time, so I'm back for more advice. Upgrade path is not a big deal. Both of my systems were used for a year and a half to two years with no upgrades, passed down to my family members, and a new comp was built. Unless there is something monumental on the upgrade path that isn't a big deal. Just need a computer that should last me another year and a half.
Is there anything MAJOR on the horizon in the next few months that would warrant me waiting it out with my current system? Any info or advice is appreciated. Thanks.
