Need advice on my proposed p45 setup

I was thinking about building the system with the following components. I want to be able to do some good gaming and have a system that would run stable 24/7, would not mind a decent overclock, but don't mind running stock.

1. Asus P5Q-E
2. 8GB Kingston HyperX PC8500 ( two 4x2GB kits)
3. Q9550 CPU
4. Video Card - no idea what to do here, I want to be able to run COD 5 and GTA4 with ease though.


Any thoughts on the p5Q-e ? I compared all the p45 chipset boards mostly from Gigabyte and Asus and like this one the most.

what to do about a video card? I am so far out of the loop that reading about crossfirex and sli makes my head spin.


The whole setup minus video card is about $550.

I have the Asus P45 P5Q Deluxe and it is rock solid. I had my Q6600 at 3.2ghz for about a month and did not get one blue screen. Overclocking is just as simple as raising the FSB, (and for me changing the NB Frequency to 333mhz, don't ask me why). Overclocking my Q6600 from 3.2 to 3.6, I noticed that my 8800GT is a bottleneck. Hope this helps.

My older Asus P5B-Deluxe failed 2 weeks ago ( my fault...badly done OC ). So, I am prob going to get that Asus P5Q-D. My other components are OK I hope.

For you, if you can swing it, get the nVidia GTX260 card...awesome...and prices are very aggresiive by the vendors right now. Have fun.

thanks for the input guys, for the ASus board is it better to go the Crossfire route or SLi route in the future, they are touting crossfire ready on the Asus board.

I was thinking of a 4870 for around $200 or so.

Just to let you know, for crossfire, the Asus P45 has different speeds for the PCIe slots. The first slot is x16, and the bottom 2 are x8. If that is a problem for you, you might want to look at X48 boards that have x16 slots.

I have heard the gigabyte board will oc easier and further than the asus. I am in the same delima as you. Im an asus fan, but may try the gigabyte board to save a few bucks as i wait to save up for I7
