Need advice on my major. Are marketing majors way way way too common?

I would love to do product development as a career.

"A product development manager creates a road map for new products by working with customers to determine their needs and with designers to create the product."

Unfortunately, I'm currently just starting in Supply Chain Management. SCM is great because managers are in high demand and I am almost guaranteed a job out of college (our placement rate for SCM majors is 100%). It also affords me a nice eagle eye view of the business as a whole. But.... is it too far left field for product development?

I think that I need a marketing major for product development, but there are just so many marketing majors that I think getting a job will be too hard.

Any comments?

Finance will get you farther than Marketing (unless you are PHENOMENAL at marketing).

Supply chain people are important but not as important as they think they are.

Operation Management and Information Systems is where its at.

That or something with mainframes. There are almost no jobs in that and most of the people are retiring so there will be plenty of jobs.

Go with finance - it is industry independent and will be very useful in anything you do.

Some guy gave me this quote - "marketing is like masturbation, and sales is like sex"

I'd go into sales before going into marketing...
