need advice on msi neo2 platinum

i bought it on newegg. they didn't write down that it only supports 3500+, 3800+ Athlon 64FX 53, or higher CPU (according to msi website), so i accidently bought athlon 64 3000+. Can I still install it on the motherboard? If not, which mother is consider above average under $150.

which socket athlon 64 3000+? if it's the 939 it shouldn't be a problem, but if its 754 then return it

it's socket 939. will the motherboard work probably if i install it anyway? I dont' want to fry the cpu.

I'm pretty sure it should be fine, but I'm not positive. If you're skeptical and still want to buy a new mobo, check out this article from anandtech for all socket 939 mobos: http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2128 The msi neo2 is a good board though.

Any S939 CPU will work in that board... As of this writing.

i use a A64 3200+ on that same motherboard so im sure a 939 3000+ is fine
