I do most of my gaming on the 360 these days but there are still a few titles I enjoy on the PC (Battfield series) or haven't even tried yet (Crysis). Anyway, my 7900GS just isn't cutting it... especially at 1680x1050, so i'm generally forced to play below the native resolution of my display.

I'm rather not spend the $$$ required for max settings at 1680x1050, just something that can perform decently at that res. I was thinking of picking up maybe a 3850 or 9600GSO for cheap (aka, not retail) and, since I have an Accelero S1, overclocking it.

Thoughts?

Radeon HD4830. It's significantly faster than a 3850 and costs under $100US after rebate. If you can stretch your budget to accommodate it, do it. Otherwise, either a 9600GT or HD4670 is the next best thing.

Where do you normally buy computer parts? Tiger Direct? I know Newegg doesn't ship to Canada.

Didn't Newegg recently open a shop in Canada ???

Did the google thing and here's what I got .. Neweg Canada Site........
http://www.newegg.ca/

Newegg apparently ships to Canada now but I understood that their shipping charges were a tad steep.

I usually buy from NCIX these days and, on occassion, Canada Computers. I've been tempted to give directcanada.com a try as well.

I'll take a look at the models that were recommended. I've love to drop $300 on something that will just fly at 1680x1050 (or higher) but i'm trying to put more $$$ in other places right now.

Looking thru the NCIX web site, I saw 4670's for $95 after $10 MIR.

Check the FS/T forums. 8800gt's are being dumped for under $100, and I would hope most people would have no problem shipping to the Great White North. It only takes a few more $$ and a couple extra minutes at the post office.
