Need advice on installing new OS.

Hi guys,
I'm helping a co-worker move from Win ME to Win XP Home. I'm going to get her to do a clean install but I want to verify a couple of things first:
1. I believe that the "upgrade" version is the same cd as the full version with the exception that she will need to show her previous Win ME cd during the process. Is this correct?
2. Will the restore disc she has, which contains all of her software including the OS, be good enough to verify her previous installation?

Thanks
Gary

1) Yes
2) it would depend on how they built there restore disk. because most of them are just an ghost/drive image of the hard drive after all was setup. If it is then it may not work

3rd option is to do a full restore from the restore disc and then do the upgrade right after that, or if you have a oem or retail cd lying around that can work too

You should be able to put in the XP disk, format to NTFS within XP setup, then install it without asking you for the original ME cd.

If that doesn't work, then get any old copy of a previous windows install disk, 95, 98, 2000, doesn't matter in order to do it.

Mboy is on the right track. It doesn't have to "upgrade" by starting it from Windows. You start it in windows so it sees that as the qualifier for the "upgrade" then you can format the drive to NTFS and install from scratch.

Though before you do this please make sure any files she wants to keep have been saved to a floppy or CD. Nothing like pissing a chick off by deleting her files on accident.

I actually meant boot from CD, you shouldn't have to be in Windows to do it and don't even want to be in windows, just boot from CD, format the partition and install.
