Not sure if this is the right group to post this in, but I regularly log on to a website
that has "forum" area relating to a particular musician.

On this site it seems somebody left the door open and we're being flooded with post's from one of the worst "trolls" I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. This person has a history with several of the regulars, and seems to follow them from site to site causing as much trouble as they can.

We've tried to get the sites webmaster to do something about it, but no luck. From reading other posts regarding fraudulent sellers I believe it's possible to find out the troll's ISP from there post, but I have no clue how to do it. If we could track him or her back to there home ISP, maybe we could get something done about it. (Maybe not.. freedom of speech and all that comes into play, but at least it would be worth a try...)

Any thoughts on how to handle this, please email me at WVince@bellatlantic.net or if your set up to do AOL IM , just IM me via WVinceWV. I'll be online most of this evening...

Thanks in advance.

Try this over in Off-Topic. What exactly is going on? What "door" was left open?

"Left the door open" ie; somebody logged on to the forum without any intent to actually participate in the discussion. I meant it to be in a slightly but obviously not apparently humorous manner. Example: "God, somebody must have left the door open, and another junior members signed on to ask the same question over and over again <g>"

The reason I posted it to this area and not "off topic" is I felt this was the best place to get an answer. In looking at the options, if I'm trying to figure out how to track someone down back to there "home" ISP, I would think someone familiar with different software (browsers, etc;) or programming might be able to point me in the right direction.

To me Off Topic would be for " God, I hate Clinton/Bush/Gore" or other non computer/bargain related items or subjects.

But if this is the wrong place would the next available mod please lock or delete this thread.
Thanks

Oh, and as to what's going on there... this poster is continually posting one letter topics, 20 or so at a time to force you to scroll down. Logging on impersonating other regular posters. Making racial and other derogatory remarks about board members, and in one case , hoping one regulars terminal disease hurries up and finishes the job, (In the most painful and demeaning way possible. Should have called them a flamer, more so than a troll, but really a bit of both.

Basically things covered by "freedom of speech", but that would get an Anandtech Mod down there throat before they finished typing <g>.

It sounds like it must have been instigated. It's easier to lead someone with sugar than with a whip.

Yeah, that must have been it. I havent' been posting on that particular board long. Someone must have done something to provoke him/her on a previous board, and that's why when the new site came up, she showed up one day out of the blue guns blazing.

Thanks for the advice... from reading past threads there, they've tried being nice, ignoring him/her, most of the normal options. Time to drop back and punt...
