As some of you know, I interned with a Morgan Stanley branch last semester. I was taking maximum credits (19) and was interning 3 times a week. Anyways, the branch I internet at has about 40 employees and according to them, that's a midsize office for Morgan Stanley. I'm a Finance & Management double major, with an ok GPA (3.0/4.0). My supervisors (brand vice president and a financial advisor) were extremely satisfied about my performance last semester and on my evaluation form (I needed that to get college credit), they wrote "The best intern we ever had in the history of this office (15 years)".

Anyways, I told them that I was going to be in the area on Friday and asked if they were going to be in their offices (you wouldn't believe how much time they spend out of office, it's like they're never there.). They replied back with this:

Hooray! I've told C____ and M____ and we're all anxious to see you
again. We're fixing a surprise for you. Please come by when you can.
Best regards,
M______

To be honest, I have no idea what that surprise can be... anyways, my question is: Towards the end of my internship, they asked me what I wanted to do after graduation. I told them that although they were great people and it was fun to work with them, I'm used to the big city life (like NYC, Chicago, D.C.) and I'm planning on moving up Northeast. I'm going to be visiting them on Friday and I am just curious what you all recommend as far as bringing up the topic of job references. I am not really sure how to ask them if they could refer me to some of their offices in NYC, Chicago, etc. Any help / recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks and sorry, no cliffnotes.

just straight up ask. i dont think you need to candy coat it if you are polite.

edit: also, why dont you want to work for them? no offense, but try moving out of your comfort zone. big cities kinda suck, IMO, and while you may like them, why not give it a try at this place since they like you so much? change is good.

I grew up in a European city with more than 3 million people. Then I lived in a city with more than 10 million people. I'm not used to the rural American lifestyle :) Living at Blacksburg (a 40,000 people college town) took me so long to get used to. This is college afterall, you cannot get bored but I cannot imagine working in a rural settlement.

i bet you would like it if you gave it a good chance. you get a whole lot of time to yourself to do whatever you want to do. i like 'burbs the best, but i would love to own a big piece of property to drive go-carts and dirt bikes all the time. thats just me, obviously.

"How to approach"
Walk upright
Bathe
Wear clothes
No crazed look in your eyes
No sharp objects or guns in your hands
Speak to them in their native language

Anything else?

That would be so sweet but I don't think they would have waited for me to contact them ;)

But thanks for keeping my hopes up :p
