need advice on fireproof chests/boxes/thingies

after a fire in my dorm a few nights ago, i'm paranoid about returning from classes and finding everything burnt to the ground. monetary losses aside, i'm looking at fireproof storage solutions like this to protect my passport and other documents that i cannot afford to lose. any suggestions?

They are good at protecting paper documents. I have one of their larger cube-safe units (with the classic hinged front door and rotary combination lock). If you are concerned about any kind of electronic or optical media (disks CDs DVDs etc,) then these will not be good enough. They keep the interior cool enough that paper should not ignite, but digital media require cooler temperatures to survive "undamaged".

If it's something as important as your passport, you may want to find out how much a small safe deposit box would cost you at your bank. Those fireboxes you were looking at only gave your documents about 30 minutes of fire protection.
