My main goal is to capture all our family tapes and throw them on dvd's..in this system i've got a Pinnacle PCTV PRo that i'm using for capturing, and using virtualdub with the huffy and picvideo codecs my audio is always a few milliseconds out of sync (it's not that bad, but noticeable). My system can handle capturing @ 720x480, but I tried bumping it down to 480x480 and even 352x240 and am getting the same problem..

I've seen the pinnacle studio av version which seems interesting, but rather than shell out $150 and waste time setting it up only to find it's crap, I figured i'd ask the experts here on their take.

Any help would be appreciated, I really want to get all this done in the next month before college starts..

Check to see that you do NOT have audio compression turned on.

Good Luck

There is a check box in VirtualDub "Lock video stream to audio" in the capture/settings area.

as for audio compression, i'm not using any -- just plain old PCM @ 44.1khz and 48khz (tried both)

I have tried the lock video to audio function with no luck -- there was even a special hacked version of virtualdub released to keep a/v in sync (link was at the doom9 forums) and after two hours of capturing @ 352x480, audio's out of sync :(
