I got the following email from a prospective bidder on Ebay.

"Hello Seller, Am Mrs Tina Royal from NY, In regards to your camcorder that was paste on the advert board i will like to make an offer to purchase it from you. Are you sure you want to sell it? and what is it's present condition? How much is the last price? Let me know the total cost of this item including the shipping charges by FedEx or any other reliable courier service to Nigeria for my Son final project at the university which will commence in one week time. I will be making your payment through Western Union Auction Payment (Money Order) Conducted by western snunion.Hope it ok.......by you. Reply me immediately because the item is needed urgently in one week time"

I looked up the username and it's got Zero feedback so it's kind of skeptical.

Thanks for the prompt advice.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

i swear, eBay should have a filter that blocks any email with the word "nigeria" in it....

I wouldn't.

It seems she is trying to add credibility to her e-mail, well, realism may be a better word, by mentioning that whole thing about the son.

What's wrong with Nigeria?

Almost all e-mail related internet scams emerge from there.

If you're willing to risk losing that item, then go ahead and give it a shot... but I'd only deal with people in first world countries personally, as in the event an auction goes sour there is some sort of path of recourse (albeit slim in most cases). Or, if they're in a third world country, I'd require that they have some pretty great feedback.

That e-mail just seems to have scam written all over it.

yup.

1. ending the auction early
2. ship to nigeria
3. western union payment

too much risk there.

Thanks for the advice. Funny too because I just received an email from some other person on another item but when I checked his feedback, he had like 229-0-2 so I might consider dealing with him. Only thing with him, is for me to ship to England it adds another 60 dollars so I don't know if it's worth it to him.

Dont do it, its a scam plain and simple. Dont even reply to the email.
The word "Nigeria" in an email should sound off all alarms

I can't believe you're even considering this....
If so, I've got some ocean front property in Nevada for sale...

And I've got a bridge in New York for ya!! 😉 😉

Since she is from NY, tell her you will ship it to NY - once proper payment is made. She can then work out the details on getting the item to her son in Nigeria.

Get him to pay for shipping.

quote him a shipping price to england, but don't sell to him off of ebay.

it sucks, but with ebay login/pw phishing, you can to be wary of everyone on ebay.
