Need advice on cpu / mobo compatibility...

Well unless I am mistaken the later Intel chipsets won't work on P4's for some reason. I read that somewhere but don't remember. The biggest thing is to look at the mobo's cpu support list and see if it has p4's listed.

I do know that all Core2 chipsets from via and sis DOES work with P4's as well.

Hmm! Interesting point. I can't imagine what later s775 chipsets/motherboards would have on them that would prohibit Prescotts from working on them, but anything is possible.

I bought this G31 board. It shows P4 support from this same line of chips. While mine isn't listed, the next chip up is...

The next chip up is the same uarch, and really the same chip, just with a different multiplier. Yours should work just fine. Should.
