Need advice on cpu / mobo compatibility...

OK, I think this cpu should work, but it is not listed as supported in either board.

Will either of these S775 mobos work??

Have you actually tried going to the respective motherboard company's website and looking up the respective board's cpu compatibility?

Guess not. If you had, you'd have found that neither can support an old Pentium 4 single core cpu. You need to find something in a much older chipset that specifically supports old P4 cpus....and that has the mfgr. list this cpu as compatible on its site.

While not listed, it could still work. Few mfg's list these old cpu's. Another member in the CPU forum says...

That processor was one of the first LGA775 procs ever released. It should run on any s775 board ever made.

Ok, this G31 board shows P4 support from this same line of chips. While mine isn't listed, the next chip up is...

You'll have to try and find someone who has used an older Netburst LGA775 P4 on those boards, contact the manufacturer and ask, or take the chance.

Its not a chipset thing, its a BIOS and board VRM thing. Some of the recent LGA775 boards aren't supporting the Netburst P4s.

I grabbed the Zotac linked above. It shows P4 support.....so we'll see 🙂.
