Need advice on clean install of new iPhone but saving past texts

I'm impatiently awaiting the arrival of my new iPhone 6. I've had 3 iPhones in the past (3G, 4, 4S). Each new phone had the previous phone's backup installed so that things like text messages and photos were carried phone to phone. I'm thinking that with the new phone I may start fresh and only download the apps I currently use. It's my understanding this may help clean out issues that can be brought to a new phone from a past install. Currently my iPhone 4S has many issues...some may be just due to the old iOS.

Either way...what I'd love is a fresh install and still keeping my text message history. My only thought on how to do this would be to install from a backup and then delete all the apps...one at a time. That's seems tedious and still doesn't give me a fresh install.

Is there a way to keep texts messages and yet have a new, clean install?

I've been using Diskaid for about a year now. I do iTunes-based backups and with that app running in the background I open Diskaid and backup piecemeal my text messages, notes, call history, contacts and voice messages. I do this in both OS X and Windows 7 environments.

In fact, I need to go delete all of my voice messages from my iPhone 5 as there were 139 on there I just off-loaded to the computer via Diskaid to W7. I will say, though, that the app author has now upgraded the software to a different name (Imazing?), but I have not upgraded to it.

Will Imazing allow me to start using the iPhone 6 w/out restoring from a backup, and then only input my text message history from my old iPhone? I see that the app allows for many other backup options but I'm not sure if can do just that.
