Need Advice on Cable Modem and Networking 2 Computers

I will be getting cable internet in the next month or so (still have 56K modem at this point) when it becomes available (Insight Communications Cable Co) and need to know what cable modem is recommended. The second question is that I have two computers, one upstairs (wifes) and mine is downstairs. The downstairs computer has access to a cable jack but there is no practical way of running a cable to the second computer upstairs (there is no cable available upstairs). There is a phone jack near each of the computers but that is all. My question is; when I do get the cable internet service is there a way to network to the second computer (which is upstairs) to mine downstairs when the cable is available? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

To connect upstairs without putting CAT5 cable you have two options:

1. Phone Network.

2. Wireless Ethernet (802.11b) - Wireless Cable/DSL Router ($160) Wireless USB Client card ($90).

I don?t know of hand the current price for Phone network; the Phone Network Router is expensive.

In my view option, one provides much better flexibility.
