Need Advice on Buying Scanner

I have never buy a scanner or use one before. My budget is around US 100 dollars, and i will mainly use it to backup reference or text books onto my HDD. So can anyone please recommend any good models and what specific features should i look out for?

If you're buying in the US market, compgeeks.com has some good deals on new and refurbished scanners. Be warned, refurbs tend to have higher failure rates, but you can get alot of scanner for your dollar.

Just a note, if you're looking for USB2 scanners, make sure it's USB 2 full speed

If it says USB2 high speed, it really is only USB1.1

-wait, or is it the other way around? 😕

I have a Epson Perfection 3170 PHOTO and am very pleased. I have scanned some pics that were not in the best shape and they came out great. I got it on sale for like $130, if you search I'm sure you can find similar or better prices. Good all around scanner in my opinion.

if your only scanning text from books... speed won't be that big of an issue as you'll only be scanning b&w - anything else would be a waste and increase file size

for under $100 you can get a canon scanner, they are like an inch high and work great... mines held up for nearly 4 years now and still gets GREAT quality photo scans out of is as long as i keep it clean
