Need advice on buying flatscreen tv/mon

I need to purchase a new TV. For general all purpose viewing. I will connect it to the PC for Hulu, Netflix, Amazon movies etc.

My old LCD TV screen now has smears. Dark blotches smeared over areas of the screen. It is about 4 1/2 years old. I checked online and these are non correctible. They occur from heat and occur after most warranties have expired.

Any advice on LCD/Flatscreen companies that design their TVs to last longer say 8-10 years?
(is that correct that these heat smears cannot be fixed?)

Whats your price range. The Sony XBR55HX929 is good or the cheaper KDL55HX850. I think sony panasonic and LG make good tvs. You can check those out they are pretty reliable.

Im willing to pay a little more for higher quality. It was a good tv, but I never heard of heat smears as none of my pc monitors that are older than the tv suffer from heat smears.
