Hi all,

I am currently putting together a system for my dad and I have the following items:

PIII 700 Edit:FC-PGA
Elsa Erazor X
256 MB of PC133 Ram
SBLive Value Card

What I need to get are:

Motherboard
Case
Hard Drive
CD/DVD/CDRW

I need suggestions for the things I need and I don't want to spend an arm and a leg. My dad has never had a computer before and he'll probably just use it for email.

Thanks! 🙂

How soon do you need it ? if you can wait, TUSL2 else CUSL2 if it's a fc-pga, if not some slot1... HD - any is pretty good, theres always a bad batch in every company..

the MSi is a better value it's cheaper then the CUSL2

for on the budget system--check the for sale/trade forums--you prolly can get a good deal on the stuff you need.

I am looking to buy new parts for the system so the for sale/trade forum is kind of out of the question.

What size hard drive do you think will be big enough? It will also be running win2K.

I want to by a mobo that has been proven to be stable. Speed is not an issue here.

I went to newegg and they really seem reasonable. I have picked out the following items. Please comment on whether I should change anything.

Case - Enlight Medium ATX Tower Case Model EN-72370X3
CD/DVD - TOSHIBA DVD ROM, 16X DVD, 48X CD ROM
Harddrive - IBM 20GB 7200RPM #IC35L020AVER07
Mobo - Asus CUSL-2-C Motherboard (not in stock)

I am not sure of the mobo. Anyone have any quick suggestions?

Newegg.com prices are unbeatable...sure you might find some specific parts cheaper at other places but if you're buying a bunch of parts to build a system, then newegg is the place. Your total should be cheaper than any other place. Plus shipping is pretty fast and cheap...only bad thing is CA residents pay tax....but it still came out cheaper for me. Bought parts for 8 systems through newegg.com in the past 4 months...not a lot compared to other ppl but still...they're very reliable and good service. Highly recommend.
