Hello all, i havent been in this forum for quite a while and havent followed the latest hardware that is out now so am kinda uninformed at this point in time. Anyway, right now am running a Pentium 3 550e overclocked to 803, 256 ram,Voodoo 5500 agp, sevaral hard drives (newest 120 gig Western Digital 8 meg cache one) Windows XP Professional.

Want somthing for both gaming and running Photo Shop 7. I do alot of digital photo editing.
Since i dont need any hard drives or CD-rom drives, i figure i need a new video card, ram, motherboard, cpu. Not sure if i need new power supply have a Antec ATX 300 watt now.
Want to keep cost around 600 to 800 bucks.

What would you guys suggest. I dont think i will be overclocking this time. I was thinking maybe a Athlon but have no clue what the differnces are between the differnt models (xp,mp) Unless Intels are alot faster for same price range.

Ps: dont need case or monitor or cd-drives or sound card or hard drive or modem, or OS.

Go to www.thechipmerchant.com and add these things to the cart:

ABIT AT7 MAX-II Socket A ATX Motherboard
PC 3200 DDR 512MB
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
ATI Radeon 9700 PRO 128 MB DDR AGP Video Card OEM

It will come out to about $813. That should do it.

How about this:
Epox 8RDA+ nVIDIA2 motherboard
ATI 9700
as much name brand PC3200 memory as you can afford (1Gb?) for video editing
AMD 2100XP from Newegg (overclocks well)

This is very similar to what I'll be throwing together in the next month.

Forgot to address this. Athlon XP CPUs are meant for normal motherboards where there is only 1 CPU for the entire system. Athlon MP CPUs are meant for systems that have motherboards that support multiple CPUs that run in parallel. With your budget I highly suggest sticking with the regular Athlon XP CPUs.

ASUS A7N8x
2 dimms of Corsair pc3200 256mb ram
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
AMD XP 2700+ 333fsb

Prices out to roughly $700

And that's top of the line for speed and number crunching out there right now
