need advice on building a cheap computer

My friend wants a real cheap computer for his daughter to use for school in middle school. What parts would you guys reccommend? I have never gone the cheap route. Thanks
 
I just build a couple computers using this motherboard here. Has everything so all you need is case/power supply, CPU, RAM, and drives. It will actually play QuakeIII at around 25fps!

Not sure where you are located but we have a FRY's electronics here. They have a computer in a box kind of thing. It is about $250 and includes pretty much everything except memory, HSF, HDD and CD Rom. It has 56K modem, 10/100 NIC, video, sound built into the board. Complete with small case. I have built a couple of these for people who just want to type letters and surf. It even has a removeable hard drive so when the little kid is bad, daddy can take the hard drive out.
