I sold my two TBird 1200's to a newbie here on AT. He sent me non-CC PayPal funds, & wanted the CPUs shipped via his UPS account.

He gave me two different addresses, two different zip codes, & two different UPS account numbers. I shipped to the address that was the confirmed PayPal address, but UPS forced the city to Miami FL instead of Kendall, FL. I'm assuming Kendall is a suburb of Miami, & he said that should get to him fine. He purchased the CPUs for systems that he sold on Ebay, sales that completed before he sent me the funds for the CPUs.

I had my parents ship the package for me (as I have many times, since I work hours that prevent me from getting to shipping facilities - They have always done exactly what I needed, I do not doubt that they followed the directions I gave them). They shipped it at approximately 6 PM last night (Oregon time). I sent him the tracking number minutes after I had it.

He requested that I send the package next day early AM, & I relayed that info to my parents.

I just got this PM from him:

Date Posted: Mar/05/2002 9:13 PM
Tracking number is:

1Z9481960700016448

Gregg

that tracking number is not valid. its 1pm here now. next day air ups delivers by 10:30 am guaranteed.
can you let me know the correct tracking number please.
i need these cpus asap as i am waiting on them to send off 2 comps i built for ebay. don't wanna get negative feedback for shipping late.
thanks

The first portion is a copy & paste of the PM I sent him last night, the paragraph is what he just sent me.

I looked up the UPS tracking number, & it is reporting as not found in their database. I'm confident that I copied the tracking number successfully.

What do I do now?

:(

UPS is usually pretty good about getting tracking numbers into their system. I've never had a package arrive at my door that I did not know about first using the tracking number. You might want to call UPS and have them put a trace on that tracking number.

I have run into a few times (two to be exact) where the UPS tracking number doesn't even show up on the website until after the package has been delivered. Have you tried calling UPS?

I will call UPS as soon as I get off this call, we'll see what they have to say.

I've had some overnight deliveries get to me before the tracking number was ever valid.

Also, considering that 6:00PM your time was 9:00PM his time, expecting a 10:30 AM delivery to THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE side of the country is pretty damn high expectations IMHO. I really don't see how they could reasonably expect that to get through without paying a HUGE fee to guarantee it.

OK, UPS said the number is a valid 2nd day air tracking number, but has not been scanned yet.

Their best guess is that the package has not yet been picked up from the UPS shipping center I used.

Delivery is scheduled for tomorrow, according to them.

I guess we're OK, although it might not have gone next day...

dosent look right viper.

see, right after 1z there are 6 digits usually with an alphanumberic code, ie: mine 1Z 432 XX0 03 4251 142 6. that 6 digit code is a shipper number, and it allows people to see where the shipment originiated. even if its a customer counter shipment.

Kendall IS a suburb of Miami. If he gave you 2 #'s, what I'm guessing is that he's just in the miami metro part of town.

do you have a copy of the ASD?

ah, ok that explains it. ASD shipments dont usually get scanned into the system until the pre-load (around 4:30 - 6PM) so you should be ok

I've had this happen also. Had a Plextor 12/10/32A shipped from Onvia.com, 4 days later the UPS tracking number that Onvia provided me wasn't showing up on UPS's website but that same day the shipment arrived.

Is that the problem? You said the UPS guy said your tracking number was for 2nd day air, but the guy was looking for next day AM shipping?

That may be part of the problem, I know the person at the UPS shipping center (one of the mall counter type things) had trouble with the system (it took him 4 or 5 tries to get the whole city/ZIP thing resolved), so who knows if he managed to put the correct shipment type.

Hope this works out man....

BTW- did you ever get that receipt for the TV? If so, did everything go smoothly?

Well, in all honesty, it should not become your responsibility because the buyer "sold" something on Ebay that he didn't yet have in his posession. I mean he's not being rude or anything, but he should have waited until he had the processors before selling them in kits....
But I too have received items before the tracking # even worked.

I did get the receipt, & the TV is currently at Magnolia Hi-Fi waiting for me to pick it up. They were unable to find anything wrong with it during the two weeks they had it, though based on the info I gave them they put a damper on the transformer. Apparently that is a preventative measure, which may keep it from happening again. Who knows.

I know, but if he thinks I gave him a bad tracking number, or something like that...

I just don't like having any doubt that I did what I said I would.
