I have a strange problem. About a month ago, I bought a P4 2.0a C1 chip from the FS/FT forum. I bought this off a VERY well respected and established member here. When I received the chip, I put it in my Asus P4B266-C (replacing my 1.6a) and could not get it to boot. It would post but would not boot into windows. I tried re-installing it several times but it was just a no-go. I contacted the seller, shipped it back and he tested it out. It worked fine for him so we agreed that he would send it back to me. I bought another motherboard, an Asus P4B533-E. This motherboard runs my 1.6a fine. I put the 2.0a in and guess what, same problem!!!!! I have tried upping the voltage, using jumpers to set the multiplier and FSB instead of going through the Bios, and still it will only post, not boot into windows. I feel certain that there is nothing wrong with the chip because it worked fine for the member I bought it from. The only thing I have thought of is that MAYBE the heatsink is not making good contact with the cpu. The only P4 heatsink I have is the retail Intel one that came with my 1.6a. I ordered a Vantec Aeroflow last night so I'm going to check that out.
Any other suggestions? Am I just missing something that is obvious or does this chip just not like me? I'm starting to get a complex!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
William
