$565 for a 22" NEC/Mitsubishi CRT with superbright mode

i wanna make sure im buying a great product for the money im spending on this, which is A LOT

i also wanna know: does this monitor stay cool or is an oven like my current one which makes my room 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house

a) what does superbright mode do, several of my buddies highly recommend it for gaming and viewing dvds

b) as stated above, i need to make sure the monitor doesnt get incredibly hot

Can't help you with heat questions, as I've never owned an NEC myself. NEC does make very high quality monitors however. I doubt you'll be disappointed. Superbright mode just makes things brighter... very nice to help see in dark games.

I would spend little more and get the Nec FP2141SB. It does higher refresh rate than FE2111SB.

These large CRTs run hot. It's just nature of the beast.

Superbright mode is nice as it makes everything bright. Good for dark games and movies.

BTW, I would check out Dell. Dell at home has free shipping on these monitors which saves you like $45. Plus no tax in most states. Dell's current price for NEC FE2111SB is $521.96 shipped. For Nec FP2141SB-BK it's $593.96 shipped. About $70 cheaper for either monitor at Dell than Newegg. Plus Dell has 100% satisfaction guarantee and will pickup shipping both ways if you need to replace your monitor. Newegg makes you deal with Nec and you have to pay for shipping which is like $60-70 ground.

I like Newegg for everything else but for monitors I usually look to Dell. With coupons and discounts you can usually save a good bit plus have the Dell guarantee.

I'm using this monitor right now.

A) Superbright increases brightness hints (Superbright) i really don't know any other way to explain it 😛. I never use it, it makes the colors look od IMHO

B) My monitor doesn't get hot at all i don't believe you'll have to worry about this.

I have an older version of the same monitor, and it's great. It doesn't get very hot -- you can feel a little heat if you put your hand over the top vents, but it's no hotter than your average 17" CRT.

That monitor has an acceptable refresh rate all the way up to 1920x1440. There's no reason to get the more expensive model unless you actually plan on using 2048x1536.

Seeing as 2048x1536 on a 22" CRT is slightly smaller text than running 1600x1200 on a 17" CRT, I fail to see how paying for a good refresh rate at that resolution is reasonable.

Does that mean you didn't read my post? It's pretty simple. You want a better refresh rate if you're going to have your desktop on 2048x1536.

2111SB does 1600x1200 at 85Hz. 2141SB does 1600x1200 at 100Hz.

2111SB does 1920x1440 at 75Hz. It can't do 2048x1536.
2141SB does 1920x1440 at 85Hz. 2048x1536 at 85Hz.

I would spend little more and get the best. If you increase the DPI size, 2048x1536 is usable. You can also play older games like Quake 3, GTA: Vice CIty, and No One Lives Forever 2 at 2048x1536 and it's very playable.

Actually, according to NEC's site, the 2111 does 1600x1200 @ 92Hz.

1600x1200 at 85Hz is the recommended mode for both of those monitors for a reason. 100Hz offers no benefit and actually loses a little bit of clarity.

One more time now... There's no reason to spend another $64 and get the FP2141 unless you want to set your desktop to 2048x1536, which probably will never happen.

although i just need an opinion or two more on superbright

i play ffxi, CS, will play HL2 and Doom3... farcry, games like that..

i watch dvds

how MUCH of a difference will superbright mode make

the 21" without superbright is a good $80 cheaper
