Need advice (Might be WTB) What is the best value multimedia speaker system?

Hi there,

I use my computer mostly for watching DVD's and a little bit of game-playing...Also, a lot of websurfing but that's inconsequential.

Okay, but here comes the question. Under $100 (maybe all the way down to $50) what is the best value speaker system out there? The sound card I'm planning to get is a Santa Cruz so is anything better suited to that even?

Also, does anyone have a speaker system for sale? I'm also looking for the Santa Cruz sound card and a good PCI video card so whatever.

In any case, PM me or reply here.

I use Altec Lansing ACS295's it's a 3 piece and the sats have a midrange and a tweeter, On the floor is the 6.5" wood case sub+amp. I don't know if they still make this model though. I think I got for ~$100. But, if I where to buy new speakers I would get the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX 3 piece ~$180.

Wow, under $100 for a good speaker system for DVDs (need at least 2.1) would be a hard find. For that price, I guess try anything with the Altec Lansing branding on them. Check their web page and see what their retail price is--then start bargin hunting for that particular model speaker system.

I think that Labtec has a decent 2.1 system for around $120 or so--it was reviewed in MaximumPC. (Sorry, I forget the model number).

The ones I have right now are a set of Cambridge Soundworks something or other...I paid a hundred bucks for them a couple years ago and they've been pretty decent.

Still, I wouldn't mind a little clearer sound when it gets loud.
