Need Advice Matching CPU / Memory

A Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 mobo is on it's way and I need to order a CPU and some memory. When I went to the Gigabyte website and viewed the compatible memory for this board there were three pages worth of choices - from DDR3 800 to DDR3 2200 and the higher frequency memory sticks from DDR3 1800 and up say, for example, "DDR3 2200 (downgrade to DDR31866 Only support DIMM3,DIMM4)" or "DDR3 1800 (downgrade to DDR3 1666)"

Hu?

Compatible AM3 CPU's range from Sempron 140 to Phenom II X6 1090T

my question is, how do I match a CPU to the memory ?

All I know is, the motherboard FSB is 5200 MT/s and I found this too

2,600 MHz = 5,200 MT/s = 10,400 MB/s

What do these #'s mean as far as selecting the maximum system memory type ???

thanks
