I'm getting a laptop sometime in the near future and I need some advice, please give pros and cons for your selection. I want something very portable since I travel a lot for work. I narrowed it down to either the X31, the V505 from Sony, or the PCG-TR2A. Everyone recommends that I get an IBM. I want to know your opinions. Thanks.

*EDIT* - 512mb ram is a must, so is cd-rw/dvd combo drive. Thanks people

I think the Sony is a good choice.

It has the Pentium M + CDRW/DVD and R9200 and 12in LCD with small footprint.

Although IBM is very nice ( I own a X24) I think that if you need an optical drive the Sony is a better choice.

The only downside to Sony is the reliability + lack of video out.

I have an X31 and it doesn't have video out either

edit: if by video out u meant a VGA DB15 output for a monitor then it does have one. I mean it doesn't have tv out

so the sony tr2a sounds good for the price? didn't know the ibm didn't have a built in optical drive... that's definitely important.... kinda leaning towards sony because my digicam is sony so easier to transfer pictures... not that it matters since i have the 7 card media reader on my desktop... argh...

Don't know if you looked into this, but you might want to look at the Toughbook W2. I have one, it's really light weight and reliable. Has a built in CD-RW/DVD player and only weighs 2.8 pounds! 12' screen also.
