Need advice from people in South Beach

I may be moving to South Beach within the next month or so, and I need some advice on choosing a place of residence. Ideally, I'd love to get a place on South Beach since it will be near work, near the scene, etc; however, I'm open to any suggestions you guys have. I think the absolute most I would pay for a place would be somewhere around $1500 a month. I've taken a liking to a couple of complexes, but I figured that you locals would know better than I.

1) SouthGate Towers - http://www.southgate-apartments.com/ (http://www.aptratings.com/ gave this place very bad reviews)
2) Mirador - (I can't find any reviews whatsoever about this place, but I love the pictures that I see)

I probably will be going down to visit this weekend, but again, I trust AT'ers opinion than I do most of these apartment guides online. I'd like to save some time on my trip down visiting each complex, and if you guys can help me eliminate any choices, or add them to my list, I would just be ecstatic.

Thanks in advance!

Are your wrists limp?

Your sexual orientation may have a bearing on where you'd be happiest in that town...

Unsure what you meant by the wrists comment. I'm straight and committed in a relationship, if that's of any consequence. The reason for the move is a change of job. I'm not limited to living right on South Beach, but I'd like it if at all possible, since I could practically walk to work.

He is saying that if you are a homophobe you will have trouble living there.

Not a homophobe by any means. I am just looking for an affordable, yet decent place that is near South Beach.
As long as you know what you are getting yourself into... 😉

My roommate from college was a closet case that came out during the year I roomed with him. No big deal for me because I am undoubtedly a straight pervert, and I don't get uncomfortable unless I'm being hit on. 😉

I live in Miami, but not on the beach.
The scene is great... people from all over the world walking around, nice weather (most of the time).

I've never seen those apartments u first mentioned, but from the view of the map, It looks like you could have a real nice view of Start Island and the bay. There's lots of places to check out, but then again, it's expensive to live there :\
