Need advice for new computer

Hi All, I am planning to build my new computer to retire old one (PII350, in service since 98 🙂 )

So far I have selected following parts. Please give me any suggestions that you may have.

Case : ANTEC SOLUTION SERIES MODEL SLK3700AMB 350W
MB : Asus A7N8X Deluxe nForce2 Ultra
CPU : AMD ATHLON XP 2500+ "Barton" 333 FSB
Mem : KINGSTON HyperX Series 256MB DDR333 (PC2700), Model# KHX2700/256
Video : ATI 9500 or 9600 128M
DVD : TOSHIBA 16X DVD-ROM Model SD-M1712

I am planning to o/c the CPU and I am not sure if in this case I need faster memory. Also should I go for ATI 9500 or 9600?

Thanks for all suggestions,
V.

If you plan to overclock the barton and actually make use of the "nforce ultra", then you would want faster ram. PC3200 and above is your goal at that 200 FSB (400 Mhz effective) mark.

Both the 9500 and 9600 are good cards. Over clocks on the card vary, along with performance increase.

get a 9500 pro or 9600 pro, stay away from the non pros unless you are gonna try to softmod

And be careful. A lot of sites like to rip you off by carefully wording a product description. You might think it is a pro however doesn't say it explicitly. If it doesn't say 9500 Pro flat out in your face don't trust it.

One last point -- 512 MB of RAM is a good idea for the newer and upcoming games.

Agree with Mr. Simmons - 512MB Ram is a must....especially if you are running a hog like WINXP.

512MB is not a must. It is recommended though to help with certain games and multitasking.
