Hey folks. I am thinking of building a system designed for playing old games which no longer work on today's cutting-edge systems.
Here are some key things I want to include:
1)VESA-compatible SVGA card
2)SoundBlaster-compatible sound card
3)Multi-boot partitions with MS-DOS, Windows 98SE, and Linux.
4)Small case (I want to mod it.. never modded a case before, so its gotta be cheap too 😀)
5)Some sort of PC switching device which lets me use one keyboard, one mouse, and one monitor on two boxes, and lets me switch between them on the fly.
Anyone have some advice on what parts to use? At this moment, here's my list:
Processor: Celeron 950MHz (they are dirt cheap, so might as well overkill, right?)
Motherboard: ???? (hopefully supports at least PC100, integrated network card a plus)
Memory: 128mb PC100 (at least)
Video Card: 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 AGP
Sound Card: ???? (needs to be compatible with DOS games)
CDROM: ???? (needs to support DOS and be compatible with games.. I know alot of old games don't like high speed CDROMs)
Hard Drive: Western Digital 20.0GB EIDE 5400RPM, 2MB cache buffer, ATA 100
