The statistic about alcohol is that your liver will handle 1 drink of alcohol an hour. Considering how many drinks you would need to be detectable past a day, it would probably be obvious by your condition.

Yes, some drug tests do detect alochol, but the average workplace 5 or 10 panel test does not look for that.

Unless your a stick, you can get some serious money in construction, however you usually need to be able to put in a full day but maybe not 5/week. If you looking for only a few hours/day sales like bestbuy or home depot. Food service sucks unless your a waiter and get tips and then you run your ass off and have to deal with demanding customers.

Think about these questions:
What do you like to do?
What big companies are in your area?

- Some ideas: lifeguard (if you can swim), bussing tables at a restaurant (good tips), cashier (easy to find jobs), start your own business (wash cars, mow lawns, etc.), start the next Google.

If you have any kind of personality whatsoever... learn how to sell. Find a retail sales gig.

There's nothing better than being able to work part time through college making $30-40k/yr.

BEST ADVICE you could ever get. Unless you know you can not or will not be a salesman then I would go with bus boy at a nice restaurant because you can make some serious tips. I made $100+ a night bussing tables back in the day. I made a lot more selling cell phones though and its much easier work. (physically atleast)

I used to work at Futureshop (Canadian Best Buy... except the salesmen are commission) when I was 18.

I have low social skills and I didn't think I'd be able to sell anything. Lo and behold, I'm making $50k a year working 4 days a week.

I was a kick ass salesmen. It's more important to know a LOT about a product (computers) then it is to have a good personality...

The total tally of complaints in my department in the three months I worked there:

4

How many were complaints against me?

4.

My manager took no action because I was an awesome salesman.

Look for something that requires little responsibility. Enjoy it while you can because you'll have plenty of responsibilities that you don't want later in your life. Also look for something that has a very flexible schedule so it doesn't get too much in the way of your life as a teenager.

My first job was Old Navy when I was 16. Not too bad a place to work. Plus, you get discounts at Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic since they all have the same parent company.

Maybe I'm just an old codger with old ideas but, doesn't anyone else think it odd he's looking for his first job at 17? I and most of the folks I grew up with started at 12 as caddies, gas jockeys, paperboys and such.

retail jobs = easy boring work with low pay
restaurant (ie busing) = busy, lotta running around work with better pay and opportunity to advance to server (good cash)
construction = great pay, hard labor
