need advice for a friend

since i know you all don't like reading a lot ill keep it short (ill add more detailed info as needed)

my friend (lets call him adam) was going out with this girl (we'll call her jane)

jane starts talking to her ex again and is planning on going out to dinner with her ex while dating adam, adam is uneasy about the whole thing, so jane says "fine you can check my e mail" (keep in mind that jane willingly gave adam her e mail acount name a password)
so adam looks at the e mails jane and her ex have been sending a recieveing, one thing leads to another and they break up

jane calls trying to get back together and adam isn't having it
so janes plan backfired
jane gets mad and tells her psycho mom that adam looked at her e mail
janes mom calls back saying that adam "hacked" janes e mail and put a virus on her computer
she starts talking about how it was a criminal act and what not

would police even investigate this?
should my friend worry?

EDIT* added info-

-no there is no proof of the convo, but he did make a myspace account for jane and the same password was used there as her e mail

also adam is FAR from being any type of hacker

-janes mom says they know the virus came in on the 15th and thats when adam was in her e mail, and janes mom also says they have proof

Does Adam have a record of the conversation where Jane gave him permission to access her email?

Regardless, you're probably fine, assuming Adam isn't a hacker in the first place.

Then you're probably fine, if there's no record of any hacking attempts, keyloggers, etc, installed on Jane's machine.

even if there is a keylogger or virus

computers these days are completely ridden with spyware and what not

they wouldn't be able to tie something like that to him would they?

i believe janes mom is just crazy enough to call a lawer, is there anyway something could happen then?

Not without proof. Even if she does call a lawyer, she'll have to prove it to him before he takes any action on her behalf. He'll have to hire an expert to look at the computer, the e-mails, etc, and determine whether they can be traced, and whether they can be traced to Adam. She will be footing the bill on all this, BTW, so I personally hope she does. If your friend IS innocent, it won't go any farther than that. If there's any chance he isn't, he'd better contact his own lawyer.

Most likely, it's a bluff designed to cause some worry for the guy who hurt her daughter. Because of course the daughter didn't do anything wrong, ever. No telling what the daughter told her mom to make the ex look bad.

hahahaha. i would seriously tell adam to forget the two of them. ignore them.

they have no proof. adam knows her damn password. there is NOTHING to worry about.
