trying to build an ultra quiet computer as a side project. speed does not matter too much. is going to be a linux box/mp3 player type thing i think. thanks.
I believe people use the C3-933mhz processors in SV24's for silence. Not sure what you can do about power supplies. Oh, and I don't think C3-933's are available in the U.S. yet.
while you cant run an AMD w/o a fan, you can run it with a PAL 8045 and a panaflo L1A and it will be silent. put another L1A in the power supply of your choice, get a barracuda IV, and voila! silent computer
i have tried the alpha approach, but it was not as silent as i had hoped. a few panaflos in the case and PSU add up and cause noise. need a fanless CPU and PSU. i already have the barucada IV
Back at the office, the HP Vectra workstations ran up to 933Mhz P3s with just a tiny Foxconn heatsink. There was a plastic airduct to the power supply to exhaust the heat. The system was silent because of the fan on the power supply put out as much air as a asthmatic kitten.
