I believe people use the C3-933mhz processors in SV24's for silence. Not sure what you can do about power supplies. Oh, and I don't think C3-933's are available in the U.S. yet. :(

VIA C3 can be run with just a HeatSink.

Verax makes super quiet HSF units for Celeron or P3.

Forget using AMD chips, they run pretty hot in comparison and require more powerfull and hence louder cooling.

You could try an athlon xp and underclock/volt it, the powernow ability should allow it to run pretty cool most of the time

you can buy any p4 and run it w/ out the fan

since it can throttle down to appropriate speeds as seen in toms video go with a p4 1.3 ghz or somethin
$103

or you can just buy nice new dell laptop they are dead silent

while you cant run an AMD w/o a fan, you can run it with a PAL 8045 and a panaflo L1A and it will be silent. put another L1A in the power supply of your choice, get a barracuda IV, and voila! silent computer :)

i have tried the alpha approach, but it was not as silent as i had hoped. a few panaflos in the case and PSU add up and cause noise. need a fanless CPU and PSU. i already have the barucada IV ;)

Back at the office, the HP Vectra workstations ran up to 933Mhz P3s with just a tiny Foxconn heatsink. There was a plastic airduct to the power supply to exhaust the heat. The system was silent because of the fan on the power supply put out as much air as a asthmatic kitten.
