Need Advice: BFG 7800 GT OC vs Evga 7800 GT?

Ok, well I know the new ATI cards are arriving soon, but Im in a jam and I need a new 7800 Card soon, soon as by next week. After my searching and researching, I have discovered that ZZF has 2 of the best deals i can find on the two cards I am torn between.

1.) BFG 7800 GT OC Retail for $369.99 - $30 MIR = $340 Shipped.

Now from what I know this card is a good, solid card with promising overclocking abilities. It is slightly faster than the 7800 GT as it has been overclocked from factory nvidia card settings straight from BFG. Now BFG apparently has a good warranty and tech support system behind them, and I'm sure it's overall a good card that i would be happy with.

2.) Evga 7800 GT Retail for $369.99 - $30 MIR - (*Possible* $25 Cash back from EVGA's CardPooling Promotion going on this month) = $315 shipped.

Now this is another good, solid card with the well-know warranty situation that evga has. THe Price difference as you can see is about $25 but that is only IF i am able to card-pool with someone and there is no guarantee that will happen.

Dilema = Obviously have the OC card for the same price would be a no-brainer. I'm not convinced that evga's warranty is so much better than BFG's that i would get a "slower" card for the same price just because its evga. So on one hand im leaning towards the BFG as its the same price as the evga after MIR. But, If i can cash in on the $25 cash back from Evga during their promotion, the $25 would probably be worth me getting the Evga...I think.

From the reviews and benchmarks i have seen, there is only about a 3-6 FPS difference between the GT and GT OC (Am i totally wrong on this?). Is that worth an extra $25? WHat are the chances i will even GET this $25? If i can't get it, the choice is easy...BFG. If i CAN get the $25, should i still choose the $340 GT OC over the $315 GT? Ohh descisions descisions! Some of you please throw me some ideas and opinions about the situation. What should i do! THanks!

i'd say go for the evga 7800gt. same heatsink and same lifetime warranty as the bfg. and IIRC, the warranty covers overclocking as well (might cover that bfg OC difference). plus evga has the step-up program which later you can use to upgrade, say for a 7800gtx, up to 90 days after the purchase.

Let's say that on average, the BFG card gets 5 fps more than the Evga. Since the difference is $25, you are paying $5 per frame per second. j/k

Get the Evga and o/c it.

but anyways....both card is the same crap...it's not rocket science to oc the core 20 mhz higher
just get the cheaper one

Well both have great deals right now. The BFG is going to be a tad faster. BOth have lifetime warranties so...

The evga has rebate at the egg and ZZF. THen in addition has a $50 cardpool($25 off and $25 evga cash) That puts it close or under the $300 mark.


Dell S&B as you may or may not be aware of, has the BFG with a $30 rebate. Well, there is 20% and 25% off coupons around. If you can find one. I used a 20% off I had on the back of a catalog.

In addition, there is a $35 off $300 STACKABLE coupon as well. I just ordered one. My total came to $324 shipped after tax and both coupons, BEFORE rebate.
So that will be $296 after rebate. Also, if you are a member of fatwallet.com, they give an additional discount of 2.7%. So thats another lets say $8 off. My total will be below $290 for the card after rebate. w0ot.

I think the one thing you are overlooking is that the EVGA card is stock 445mhz core 1.07 memory. Thats faster than the BFG. The EVGA is potentially cheaper, offers a better coverage warrenty and has a step-up option if needed. EVGA seems like the logical choice IMO.

If you want EVGA's 470MHz part, look for part number 256-P2-N517-AX, the 460MHz board's designation is 256-P2-N516-AX. The only difference between the two cards is the GPU speed (460MHz versus 470MHz) and price.

In addition to these two cards EVGA also produces a third 7800 GT SKU, the e-GeForce 7800 GT (Part Number: 256-P2-N518-AX), this board ships with a 445MHz GPU and 535MHz memory and is the least expensive of the three GeForce 7800 GT cards EVGA manufactures.

I bet the cards with a 470 core are using the new BIOS without the vertex delta. My N518 hits 460 / 1200 and I can confirm it has a separate 2D/3D clock. I believe than means it's using the delta. If I'm interpreting the results in that thread correctly, my card at 460 with a delta is faster than a card at 470+ without one.

This is the same trick they're pulling with the new 7800 GT CO. It's "faster" out of the box, but doesn't have a delta.

if im following this correctly, a card with a delta is faster...however, its also highly prone to artifact corruption. so...whats the point? im looking for a fast card but not at the sacrifice of image quality and stability.

is it possible to find out which card doesnt have the delta... it may be a lil slower, but more stable. i dont want the headache of having to flash the bios etc... does evga just offer a card w/out the delta / new bios?

eVGA was awesome, my 6800GT was eVGA and it was completely trouble free.

I recommend eVGA to anyone.
