I'm looking to finally replace my CRT monitor with a 19" LCD. Needs to have a black trim, maybe some silver in there, and I do play FPS games. My vid card has both analog and DVI outputs, would prefer to get a monitor with DVI in.

samsung has lots of 19" lcd's most of them have good response and fair brightness and decent contrast. Take a look at their offerings @ pricegrabber.com. The viewsonic mentioned suffers from poor contrast and color reproduction. (reds specifically) You would do better by spending $30 more and get the vx2025 viewsonic

any link to that claim. all the reviews i've seen of the vx922 declare it an excelent monitor for the price.

Nice! That Benq looks like a great deal. Guess I should set the upper limit to $250 and not $300.

What are your thoughts on buying online vs in store and dead pixels? I still notice the thin grey lines from my trinitron crt, and don't like the idea of having a pixel being stuck at one color in the middle of my screen. I figure returning a monitor to a store would be easier, is that ability worth the added cost over buying online? Is getting a dead pixel a rare event now, or is it still something I should worry about?

the acer 1280x1024 8ms dvi that runs < $200 on sale (got one from ne) works really well... i don't game, but my son borrowed it while i was out of town to test it out, and he didn't want to give it back... no dead pixels, relatively thin bezel...

You have legitimate concerns. Personally, I buy everything online. I have bought two 8ms Benq monitors (FP91G+ and FP92G+) from Newegg and they both arrived with zero dead pixels. Benq has a 3 year parts/labor/backlight warranty also. I am very pleased with these monitors, they are great for gaming (for me anyway). If you have a Costco nearby, that is probably the best route offline. Excellent return policy. If you go with an 8ms or lower, you should be very happy.....
