Guys, I need some advice. I recently got a new computer and I need to upgrade my older one so it is more useable. I would like to get the most bang for my buck on this system. I was thinking getting a celeron 566 and slocket and oc'in it. Right now, the mobo has a celly 300a oc'ed to 450. Anyone that has any suggestions. Please LMK.

get a celeron from anandtech on forsale/trade, the 633 overclocked to 950 is a good choice.

compuwiz1 might be able to point you in the right direction..

very fast, pretty cheap. most 633's ive seen do 950.

As I see it you have two options: 1. Get a Coppermine 700-850, adapter, and fan. This will cost $150-250 depending on the processor. It should work at the default bus speed, 100Mhz, but Abit doesn't recomend them. They draw too much current. 2. Get a Celeron 566 and try to overclock it. The price is 1/2 the cost of a PIII 700 and the performance is about the same or better depending on the application. I have two 566@850 Celerons in BH6s with stock Intel heatsinks and they work fine. If you are going to gamble with a processor not working in the old BH6, I chose to possibly only lose $80 not $250. >If you got the cash get the P3 700 and overclock it to 933 w/ standard HSF. But i'll need PC133 memory and also if you have the older BH-6 V 1.0XX just flash it to ss and you'll be fine :) or the celeron 566 is fine to.

I have two bh6's running 633's@950,on an abit slocket.Any good slocket will work,I prefer abit. With the slocket adapter, with your mo/bo flashed to the newest bios, you can run any intel cpu up to the 933,I think. The 850 for sure. The ss bios enables the multipier to 9.5,so any cel would work, when its x is higher,if the bios is set to the max,the mo/bo will oick it up(cel700)I lucked out on a deal and got a bh6 1.2,it has the 1/4 pci divider at 124+ bus.Good luck.........

got cel 633 at 950. using Bh6 1.75V and no name slocket with stock heatsink. i bought the retail one. if you have money i suggest P3 700 or 800 as they'll be little bit faster then cel2 and even faster if you can overclock it a little. but i didnt have money and that little improvement was not enough for me to pay twice+ the amount and im quite happy with my 950.

ill say from cache intensive bench marks (3dmarks) mine is like 700 athlon(T bird) or 800 P3 or 800 Duron. but in Sisoft Sandra and games (Q3, CS) i get results that are tad lower then P3 1gig.

hell of performance for a stock chip with low price and little hassle. (no need to buy new MB)

have fun. happy holidays

i say go with compuwiz and get a 566 or 633 celeron II guaranteed to overclock to 850 or 950. That would be the most power for your dollar. I am running a celeron II 533@896 on a BH6 rev1.05? and i havent seen any performance problems. Chances are you dont need the power of a P3. Once you begin to get over 750+ mhz it doesnt really matter what CPU you have they are all pretty powerful and will do everyday work equally well. I say save some money and get a cheap celeron II.

I have used both generic and Iwill II adapters. Both worked fine. An adapter with voltage ajustments might be usefull if you want to try the processor on other motherboards without core voltage adjustment on the board or BIOS. I would not count on running the BH6 at 133 MHz, so if you go with the 100MHz bus Coppermine chips you may not be able to overclock. R.
