Long story short, I signed a 1-year contract with SBC Yahoo DSL in April 2002, and when April 2003 came around, I had it cancelled after I had fulfilled my contract. At this time, I also had signed up with Comcast for broadband, so for one month, I paid for both services, just to fullfill my contract with SBC.
Today, my dad came to me with a March 2004 phone bill that had a charge of $59.90 for DSL service. I thought it was a simple mistake, but after I called the DSL billing line, I found out that we had been billed for the past 10 months at $29.95 a month for SBC Internet Services. The manager I talked to on the phone said that their policy is a 30-day dispute window, and that by paying, I agreed to the amount of the bill. I don't see anywhere on the bill where this is indicated. Talked to him for about 20 minutes and he got tired of it and ended the phone call after the usual tag line "Thank you for calling SBC."
This amounts to $299.50 for 10 months. Any ideas on how to take this further?
EDIT/UPDATE: 4/20- Rep from SBC called earlier this morning witha couple of questions. He called back about 2 hours later and said that they checked the account and everything showed that we hadn't used the DSL line ever since our first cancellation notice. I asked him the cause of the problem, and he said when we had moved from our old location to our new house, the address change that was made by the CSR in a way that it had automatically signed us up for ANOTHER one-year contract. The guy that called said we will be credited a total of $329, but they are going to credit our SBC account, not cut a check. I really don't know which one of my actions caused them to take action. Here is what I did:
-Called the SBC DSL Billing Line
-Filed a report with the FCC
-E-mailed SBC several times
-Filed a report with RipOffReport.com
Which one do you guys think was the one that caused them the most concern? In all of the instances, I had made clear the fact taht I would've taken my case as far as it needed to be taken.
Thank god for 4/20...quite a coincidence, dontyathink?
