Just found out that my Compaq PC has a damaged mouse port on the back of the PC. I can't push the male pins of my mouse into the female sockets on the motherboard mouse port. The sockets are damaged, and I cant even get the mouse into the port. Of course my PC is useless now that I can not use my mouse at all. Is there any way I can work around this problem??

What about buying a adapter that will let me plug my mouse into a Serial Port or even a LPT printer port. Does such a thing even exist? Can I buy a PCI card to install on my MB that has at least a mouse port on it?

Guys please help me out! Thanks a lot

I don't like using serial mouses as they act funny. I have a MS Mouse Intellipoint Pro that I hook into the serial port. It acts funny.....

I also have a laptop that has one PS2 port. I bought a PS2 "Splitter" that allows me to plug one cable into the PS2 port, and hook up my KB and mouse to it. I got it from Best Buy (more expensive but you can't beat the return policy).

What is it about the socket that is broke?

Did one of the black guide pins break and get stuck? If so just break off one on your mouse.

Did one of the pins break off inside? If so you may be able to push them out with a needle from the back of the socket.

Did the socket get all broke to hell and back? If so buy a PS/2 to Serial Adapter. You can get one from the place where: "You have questions that they can't answer" AKA Radio Shack. :)

A PS2->Serial adapter should run you around $1.50 at any local computer store.

I don't know about the serial mouse acting funny thing, sounds like computer voodoo to me. I have a PS2 and a Serial mouse hooked up at the same time and I can use both interchangably.

The PS2 to Serial connector is the best deal if you do not want to replace the mouse. I used one on an old computer and they work well and are cheap.
