Need a Woman's Opinion About an Engagement Ring Question

Heya,
The other day I was having lunch with a female friend I've known for just over a year. Just friends, she knows I have a GF, but I think she's attracted to me for a few reasons (note: started dating my GF about 3 months after meeting this friend).

We were discussing weddings, as I mentioned to her that some friends of mine, who are also acquaintences of hers, got engaged.

Then she looks me in the eye and with a big smile on her face... says that when the time comes, she wants a 2 carat engagement ring... quality of the diamond isn't that important, she wants a 2 carat diamond as since she's 5'9" a 1 carat would look too small on her hand.

Alright... do you think she's just talking about diamonds in general or she was dropping a big hint about what she wants from me. She knows my relationship with my GF has been rocky since the beginning and doesn't like her.

Would like a woman's opinion on this.

Thanks,
PCM

EDIT (17 replies later): I said I wanted a woman's opinion, you clowns, to offer insight on the female psychology

I don't know much about your relationship with your friend, but I'm pretty sure your friend doesn't want to marry you.

it is really stupid to only want size. She obviously knows nothing of diamonds. Big cheap stones look like a piece of dirty glass.

I think it was a metaphor. She's not too picky about her men, just so long as they can give her the big one.

More importantly, you should realize that you really want to bone this woman, but are conflicted with guilt since you have a girlfriend.

I dunno but if she insists on 2 carats, I'd take the hint and keep my distance!

agreed. i just watched a guy on blind date cough up his dinner when the date said she had her engagement ring picked out, it was 3.5 carats.

If they love you they'll like what you tell them to like.

Warning: GoldDigging Bitch

Do you realize that at that size and at any decent quality, the diamond alone will be in the $20,000 to $30,000 range? Baby, the friggin ring is not worth my yearly salary.

Ok, as the token female here, I would say that she's full of crap. 2 ct would look huge on anyone. She sounds high-maintenance. As far as whether she said that because she wants you, I don't know. Does she go out of her way to make physical contact frequently?

I hope you realize that if those 17 "clowns" didn't reply, this thread would be on page 13. If things are rocky with your GF then you should probably go after this chick. At least find out how she tastes.

I minored in women's studies and I took psychology of women as a part of that. This "clown" has a clue.
Ostensibly she's all-too-concerned about appearance.
Intuitively, sounds like she's more concerned about the value and being able to say she's got the biggest.
Of course we don't know anything for sure based on what little is in the thread.

She probably asked you because she is interested and she's trying to gauge both your readiness to settle down, and your ability to fund her "needs."

And that is why I would take the hint and walk away.

Hmmm...I'm 5ft 9 and think a 2 carat ring would be too large and vulgar on my small hand.

I'd say she's just comfortable enough with you to display her gold digger side.
