I've had really good luck with Sony Bumpin Buds MDR-EX37B - had my pair for about 2 years and they get pretty loud. Are your headphones OK on other devices? You could always get a Fiio amplifier too.

it's the phone. youtube is mad low volume. I've decided to return it and get a lg g4

That's one way to solve the problem.😉 Another would've been to look for a different set of earphones with greater sensitivity. I'm a big fan of those earphones on a bang-for-buck basis, but at "only" 96 dB/mW, they aren't the most sensitive little things out there...

You could always get a portable amp. Fiio makes them in all sizes then you can use it with any device w/o low output.
